Performance Side Mount Intercooler for all B5 Audi A4 1.8 turbo models. Upgraded intercooler (110% more core volume) reduces excessive charge air temperature, decreases pressure loss, while simultaneously providing an increase in horsepower and torque. It is designed to seamlessly bolt into the OEM intercooler location. This is a must-have upgrade/replacement for all stock and modified vehicles.

I just got around to installing this intercooler this weekend, and it works as it should. I can't log intake temperature, but it has been hot the past few weeks (85-95 during the day) and my k04'd b5 manual passat has been heat soaking really badly. With the stock intercooler, the car will lay down in third at about 4000, but with the upgraded one it will pull all the way to 6500. You can also do this several times in a row without heat soaking too badly, though performance will still suffer if you continually romp on it on a hot day (like yesterday). I'm pushing the k04-015 fairly hard, so it mostly blows hot air at the top of the rev range. Low and mid range is good and the intercooler seems to be a good match for that. It might be a good match for a larger turbo operating more in the peak efficiency range if you don't want to have a big front mount, but that is speculation on my part.
Installation was about two hours and there are some differences between installation on a b5 and the b6 instructions which are on Apikol's web site. The support in front of the intercooler needs to be trimmed back (towards the front of the car) about 3-4 cm and the mounting bracket for the stock intercooler needs to have the top two inches of the bracket removed where the two stock mounting holes are located on the top of the stock intercooler. I also had to extend the mounting tab about an inch on the intercooler itself to mate properly with the fender bolt, and also modify the shroud so that it would fit in between the front support bracket and the intercooler. But overall the installation was clean and straightforward and it looks factory from the outside.
