The timing setup on the 1.8T engines has always been a concern for high HP and high RPM use. With upgraded valvetrain and higher RPM, there is much more stress on the cam pulley keyway. This added stress can result in catastrophic engine damage, which can lead to bent valves or even destroyed pistons and cylinder heads. With much testing and development, we have worked with ARP to offer an aerospace grade cam pulley bolt, which allows for a larger clamping force on the cam pulley. This added clamping force will ensure that the joint does not slip, shearing the keyway on the pulley. Using this bolt along with our ARP 1.8T Crankshaft Bolt will offer a much stronger timing setup than OEM.
Increases clamping force on cam pulley by 10%
Extermely consistent clamping load
Made in the USA to tight tolerances
Threads rolled after heat treating
Reusable, unlike the OEM stretch-bolt.
All 1.8T Engines
Ensure that the threads in the camshaft are clean and free of dirt, debris, and oil. Clean if necessary.
Thread bolt all the way into camshaft by hand to verify that threads are clean.
Install the gear and bolt. Be sure to have the large washer underneath the head of the bolt. The bolt uses a 5/8” 6 point head. Torque the bolt to 55 ft/lbs using red Loctite®.
This bolt is reusable. If you use Loctite®, it is advisable to heat it before removing. Do not exceed 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
